Verify your sending domain before sending campaign emails. The domain page shows the DNS records to add and the current verification status.
Why domain verification is required#
Email providers check that senders are legitimate. DNS authentication helps providers recognize mail sent from your domain.
Verification involves adding DNS records that prove you control the domain. The time depends on your DNS provider.
Before you start#
You need:
- A domain name you own (like yourstudio.com)
- Access to your domain's DNS settings
- Basic familiarity with DNS (or someone who can help)
If you use a website builder like Squarespace or Wix, you can still verify - you'll add DNS records through their platform.
Starting verification#
Go to Admin > Settings > Domain to begin. If you haven't added a domain yet, choose Add domain and enter your root domain, such as example.com. Do not include www, https://, or a path.
Naayya generates the specific DNS records you need to add. These records are unique to your studio.
DNS records you'll add#
Naayya shows the DKIM and SPF records required for sending, plus a DMARC record marked Recommended. Copy each displayed row exactly. The page uses MX and TXT records for these settings; the exact names and values are generated for your domain.
Adding DNS records#
The exact steps depend on your domain provider, but the process is similar everywhere:
General steps#
- Log into your domain registrar or DNS provider
- Find the DNS settings or DNS management area
- Add each record Naayya provides
- Save changes
Record format#
For each record, copy every field Naayya displays:
- Type: The record type, such as MX or TXT
- Name: The exact host or name
- Value: The exact value
- Priority: The priority, if Naayya shows one
Do not rewrite, combine, or omit records. Small typos prevent verification from working.
If you use a website builder, check its help docs for "adding DNS records" or "custom DNS."
Completing verification#
After adding the required DNS records, return to Naayya and click Verify DNS. Naayya checks if the records are in place.
DNS changes can take a few minutes to several hours to propagate. If verification fails immediately, wait 15-30 minutes and try again.
Verification status#
Your domain shows one of these statuses:
Pending: Records not yet detected. Wait longer or check if you entered them correctly.
Verified: All records confirmed. You can send marketing emails.
Failed: Records aren't detected or are incorrect. Check for typos or missing records.
Troubleshooting verification#
Records not found after hours: Double-check that you added the records to the correct domain.
Type mismatches: Verify you used the exact record type Naayya specified. A TXT record entered as CNAME won't work.
Value errors: Copy and paste values directly from Naayya rather than typing. Extra spaces or missing characters break verification.
TTL settings: Some providers ask for TTL (time to live). Use the default or 3600 seconds. This doesn't affect verification.
After verification#
Once verified, regular campaign emails can be sent and use the business contact email shown in your settings, with your sender display name if you have set one. Regular campaign sends require a verified domain.
A marketing preview test can use Naayya's default address when no verified domain is available. If you delete the domain, emails use the default Naayya address until you add a domain again.
Keep the verification records in place. If you delete the domain from Naayya, emails use the default Naayya address until you add a sending domain again.
Domain management#
View your sending domain in Admin > Settings > Domain. You can:
- See verification status
- Check which DNS records are properly configured
- Delete the sending domain when you no longer want to use it
DMARC policy (recommended)#
DMARC is separate from domain verification. It helps prevent others from spoofing your domain and tells inboxes what to do with mail that fails authentication. The domain page marks DMARC as Recommended.
DMARC is an additional TXT record added to your DNS. The value starts with "v=DMARC1" and contains policy settings.
If DNS changes#
Keep the verification records in place. If you change your DNS settings, return to Admin > Settings > Domain and choose Verify DNS again.
Getting help#
Domain verification requires technical access some studio owners don't have. If you're stuck:
- Ask your web developer or IT person to help
- Contact your domain provider's support - they can walk you through DNS changes
- Email support@naayya.com with your domain name and we'll help troubleshoot
Include screenshots of your DNS settings when asking for help - they make troubleshooting much faster.
